Why We’re Better, Together

For more than 25 years I’ve worked in the foodservice and hospitality sectors, through some good times and some particularly challenging times. We all know the impact of current challenges as the sector tackles a perfect storm of energy price increases, food inflation, skills shortages and lower footfall due to the cost of living crisis. And the only way to survive in times like this is by working together.

I’ve always said one of most pleasing parts of this industry is the way in which everybody joins together for the greater food. Manufacturers, distributors and operators all want to get to a thriving foodservice industry and it’s fantastic to see colleagues communicating and sharing best practice. And the driving force behind this collaborative approach are our longstanding industry associations.

Through my work with clients (and working directly for the associations themselves), I’ve spent a number of years working closely with the likes of the Craft Guild of Chefs (chefs), CEDA (dealers), LACA (education), TUCO (universities) HCA (hospitals) and others. These vital organisations provide a consistent voice, enhanced support, resources and more to help strengthen individual categories – and their positive impact is being felt more than ever in the current climate.

From regional meetings and professional development opportunities to help with procurement and research/insights, they provide members with a wealth of benefits. They offer forums, product support, a chance for feedback and innovation, as well as access to new markets.

If you’re not involved with your relevant association, then now is the time to act. We’re better, together – and I’ll continue to champion the great work they do.
