WELFARE

The provision of care afforded to the young people who come to stay with ProActive-Solutions (GB) Ltd is of the very highest quality and standards. Once a young person has been accepted into the project they will be given as much autonomy in the shaping of their lives as is possible and appropriate.

This begins with the introduction of staff to young people coming into the project. Following an initial "settling in" period where they are given the opportunity to come to terms with their new surroundings and perhaps the reasons for their being there, each young person will be introduced to a staff member who will take the role of keyworker.

The choice of keyworker, having as they do, responsibility for ensuring that the physical and emotional needs of the young person are appropriately met, is critical and in terms of New Dawn’s input will be based on the individual workers experience of child care in general paying particular attention to the specific issues affecting the young person with whom they will be matched. In all cases the young person’s views on the choice of keyworker will be sought and wherever possible will be adhered to.

Each shift is staffed wherever possible to include a male and a female member of staff thereby fulfilling our commitment provide a homely, family like environment. Except in cases where there has been prior written agreement with the placing authority to the contrary, 24 hour supervision is the basis on which care is provided. This care extends to 7 days a week and 52 weeks of the year. Staff are provided in accordance with whatever ratio is deemed necessary, for instance 2:1 2:2 etc.

Following the settling in period and introduction of keyworkers the young person will be encouraged to make the unit their home in every sense of the word. This will extend to the design and re-decoration of their own room reflecting their own personality and giving them a sense of belonging. A budget will be provided for each young person placed with us to enable the purchase of books, games and toys which will be of their own choosing and will again reflect the commitment of ProActive-Solutions (GB) Ltd to personal choice and to the concept of providing a child focused service.

In terms of medical care, each shift will have at least one trained first aider on duty to ensure that any immediate care required as a result of illness or accident can be catered for. In addition, on placement with ProActive-Solutions (GB) Ltd each young person will be registered with the local GP together with dentists and where necessary, opticians.

Young people staying with ProActive-Solutions (GB) Ltd in any of it's projects are offered the facilities of a therapist to visit them on a weekly basis. In addition, and where necessary and appropriate, individual counselling and/or advocacy services are offered to each young person.
