THE WOODLANDS

The Woodlands, like all the projects operated by ProActive-Solutions (GB) Ltd, places the emphasis on normality in terms of it's appearance and location. Situated in the village of Strefford, 2 miles north of the town of Craven Arms in Shropshire, the home is easily accessible lying as it does just off the main A49 trunk road.

In order to fit in with the philosophy of ProActive-Solutions (GB) Ltd which is that of providing a homely atmosphere for young people who may have been denied that luxury we all take for granted, The Woodlands gives no outward indication to the services being provided within.

In keeping with this homely theme the house provides accommodation for 2 young people aged between 12 and 16 years. The young people are supported by 6 full time trained staff plus a Registered Manager. This permanent staff team is supplemented as necessary by bank staff to cover holidays and sickness etc thereby ensuring a full compliment of staff at all times. In addition, the young people benefit from the services of a therapist who makes weekly visits to offer support and counselling plus a tutor who will deliver home based programmes approved by the DfEE in the event that the young people cannot attend mainstream school for whatever reason.

The Woodlands offers each young person their own bedroom and a shared bathroom. They have a comfortable lounge/dining area complete with TV and video recorder etc. The house has a fitted kitchen with separate utility room and also boasts outbuildings which are used as workshops and therapy room. The young people have the use of a separate private room that can be used for family visits or to make or receive telephone calls etc. Staff are accommodated in their own bedrooms of which there are two, one upstairs and one downstairs in addition to having their own separate bathroom. The house has large gardens that are accessible for use by the young people if they have an interest in horticulture.

The entire property is fully compliant with current health and safety legislation and meets the requirements of the National Care Standards Commission in terms of residential care regulations.

Although situated in rural Shropshire, residents of The Woodlands are never short of activities to take part in. The house itself is within easy commuting distance of other major towns in and around Shropshire in addition to being 30 minutes from Wolverhampton and a little over an hour to Birmingham. A comprehensive collection of information on all manner of activities from pony trekking to quad bikes and art classes to cinemas are available and the young people are encouraged to undertake at least two activities each week.

Due to the ages of the young people staying at The Woodlands they are encouraged and guided towards greater independence and self reliance. This is evident in the home where the young people will be given support to do their own laundry and cleaning of their room plus helping with the general household tasks.

Each young people staying at The Woodlands will be allocated a weekly allowance for their own needs together with a monthly allowance specifically for the purchase of clothing, the choosing of which is an exercise they will be encouraged to take part in.
