Finally, the education of each young person is recognised as having a vital role to play in their future. No doubt the circumstances that have resulted in the young person coming to stay at ProActive-Solutions (GB) Ltd will also have resulted in a significant disruption to their education. This may be particularly damaging for someone who is already deemed to have special educational needs or who may have suffered from the traumas of family breakdown, abusive situations etc.
Always remembering that the welfare of the child is paramount and fundamental to our philosophy of care, these factors, coupled with realistic expectations of the child's potential will be taken into account when considering the educational needs of each individual young person.
Wherever possible and practical a place will be sought in the local mainstream school facility. However, where, for whatever reason, this may not be possible, then a home based raft of educational provision will be delivered "in house" by our education team.
Personal, social and health education figure high on the list of educational priorities to the extent that these topics play a major role in the tutelage of every young person who comes into the care of ProActive-Solutions (GB) Ltd. Having made a clear commitment to putting the welfare of the child ahead of all other criteria the promotion of PSHE is the common thread that binds together all our input with the people in our care.
A part of the learning process is also concerned with the teaching of values. Whereas, in the young person's previous experiences they may have been devalued and made to feel worthless we will work to reverse this damage not only to the extent of helping the young person to value themselves but also by imparting to them the importance of valuing others.
This will be achieved by helping the young person to appreciate the different views and opinions held or expressed by other people and respect their right to hold and express those views.
Within this context we will promote the need to care for others and treat them and their beliefs and opinions with respect acknowledging their feelings and finally being fair, truthful and honest in their dealings with others. The development of personal morals and a code of conduct in this way will lead to an understanding and tolerance of varying cultures, religions and life styles and to the building of positive relationships and attitudes.
Physical fitness will also form part of the educational and life style programme with the encouragement of participation in sport and activity based pursuits.
Dependant on the young person’s situation and all other factors, the National Curriculum will be delivered with all elements being encompassed within the programme.
A specific sex education programme can be delivered subject to prior agreement being obtained usually from the placing authority and parents wherever possible.
